Interface Behavior of Granular Soils Reinforced with Surface-Modified Coir Geotextiles

The paper presents the effect of using cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL), a low-priced agro by-product and renewable resource, to treat coir geotextiles. Large-scale direct shear tests were performed on sands reinforced with untreated treated geotextiles at different normal stresses (50 kPa, 100 150 kPa). Sands three particle sizes (coarse, medium, fine) used for study. strength parameters soil samples measured in terms interface friction angle, apparent cohesion, coefficient. experimental investigations revealed that liquid-treated improved all sand fractions. tensile CNSL-treated geotextile was also by 13%. Two-dimensional finite element simulations large-scale PLAXIS 2D carried out study mechanism detail. Mohr’s circles drawn data from numerical analyses, plane strain angles obtained compared studies. angle higher than geotextile, indicating shifting failure envelope.
